Raw Material Databases

The following table lists and describes the databases for raw materials provided by Matrix.

You may wish to create other databases which are collections of materials conveniently stored together.

Matrix uses the convention of storing a newly entered material in one of the four categories of databases named Feldspars, Clays, Fritts and Others. There may be more than on database in each category but a raw material should only be saved in one of these categories when first entered.

Two special databases have been created for the convenience of collecting materials together so that they are easily located.

The most important of these is the Local Materials.rmt file which is Matrix's default database. If you copy into this file from the other databases materials which you very frequently use in your recipes then you will make the process of entering and altering recipe much faster.

The Auto Materials.rmt file is a special collection of selected materials from your Local Materials.rmt file. Its use is explained here.

The GB_Subs.rmt file is an example of a list of materials copied into one database for the simple convenience of having potential substitutes for Gerstly Borate in one file. All of the materials in such files as these three will have been first entered and saved in one of the basic storage databases Feldspars, Clays, Fritts or Others.

Used in the Preselect Make Recipe Mode.

GB_Subs.rmt

Materials copied from other databases.

The basis for this collection is to have convenient access for substituting Gerstley Borate in recipes.

Clays-A-B.rmt
Clays-C-J.rmt
Clays-K-O.rmt
Clays-P-S.rmt
Clays-T-Z.rmt

When entering a clay for the first time into a database place it in one of these.

Some of the materials first stored in one of these may be copied to your lLocal Materials and Auto Materials databases if needed.

Primary sources of Al2O3.

There are so many clay analyses available that they have been collected and stored on an alphabetical basis.

Feldspars-A-Z

Stores all of the feldspars - save newly entered fedspars here.

Some of the materials first stored in one of these may be copied to your lLocal Materials and Auto Materials databases if needed.

Primary sources of K2O and Na2O.

But this category might also include other spars such as Petalite which is a primary source of Li2O

Fritts Blythe.rmt
Fritts Ferro.rmt
Fritts Fusion.rmt
Fritts Hommel.rmt
Fritts Misc.rmt
Fritts Pemco.rmt
Fritts Podmore.rmt

Fritts are collected under their manufacturers names. When entering a fritt for the first time into a database place it in one of these.

Some of the materials first stored in one of these may be copied to your lLocal Materials and Auto Materials databases if needed.

Primarily synthetic materials dominantly including B2O3.

Fritts are usually more convenient to locate under their producer's names.

Others-A-M.rmt
Others-N-Z.rmt

These databases contain any material which would not fit into the Feldspars, Clays or Fritts catagories.

Some of the materials first stored in one of these may be copied to your lLocal Materials and Auto Materials databases if needed.

Essentially a miscellaneous collection of materials of various kinds.
Colourants.col This is a special database stored in the Raw Materials folder and contains oxides primarly used to colour base glazes. The file structure of this catagory is different from other raw material files.
