Load an Individual Recipe

Recipes saved as individual files may be retrieved into an active recipe panel by clicking on the button in the Recipe to Formula environment.

This opens the Windows File Selection dialog (Fig.1) displaying the contents of Matrix's Individual Recipes folder. Double click on the recipe you wish to load and it will be displayed in the active recipe panel.

Loading a Recipe Using Glaze Images

If you have glaze images attached to your individual recipe files you can use the images to locate the file you are looking for.

On the Recipe to Formula menu select the Individual Rec From Glaze Picture ... (Fig 2)

This opens the file selection dialog shown in Fig.3

Matrix Recalculates the Formula when Loading in the Recipe

As the recipe is loaded Matrix will search it's materials databases for each material in the recipe and will use the data for that material to progressively calculate the unity formula for the recipe. Matrix will also calculate the Al:Si ratio, the Coefficient of Expansion and the Surface Tension for the recipe. To do this Matrix needs to locate each material in its databases.

If for some reason a material cannot be found (maybe it was deleted or renamed or one of the material databases was lost) then a warning dialog opens.

Response to a Missing Material

If Matrix cannot find one of the recipe's materials in any database it will not be able to calculate the Unity formula for the recipe and will display the warning dialog shown in Fig.4

Although Matrix stored the unity formula which was created when the recipe was originally entered this dialog is designed to warn you that somehow one of the materials used to create the recipe is no longer in any of the raw material databases under the original name.

In this example Matrix cannot find a material with the name EPK Kaolin.

If click the OK button in this dialog the window will close and Matrix will display the recipe but not the formula.

If you simple wish to display this recipe and its formula without the option of making changes you can load it into the Recipe Display window by clicking the button in the Tool Bar.

Alternatively if you click the Display Original Recipe Data button (Fig.4) the recipe and original formula will be displayed.

Before this example recipe could be worked with in the Recipe to Formula environment we would need to follow one of these options:

  • find the original EPK Kaolin (its name many have been changed) or enter a replacement material called EPK Kaolin in the Clays-C-J.rmt database then reload the recipe. OR

  • replace the EPK Kaolin in the Recipe to Formula environment with another similar material and adjust the recipe to match the original formula OR

  • send the original formula to the Formula to Recipe environment where a new recipe could be created to match the formula using materials available in your databases. To follow this last option click the Send to Form to Recipe button (Fig.4)
